I paint with acrylics on watercolor paper, using the process of layering the paint and scratching back to reveal unique colors and textures in my paintings.
White Tailed Doe ~ a painting from an experience I had. Most mornings I go for a walk down along a trail in a hilly wooded area at the edge of our neighborhood. Last week I was on a trail there was a doe standing on the trail about forty feet ahead of me. I kept walking assuming she would leap away but there she stood looking straight at me, I slowly walked to within eight feet from her. I was in awe that she didn’t run, she looked peaceful, but I decided to turn back and take another trail so as not to disturb her.
This painting shows the scene with her looking at me on a late winter morning with last year’s beech leaves still on the trees. I love the warmth of the dull orange leaves against the gray tree trunks against the blue sky. I chose a painterly style and can picture it framed in a cabin in the woods. I looked up the symbolism for a doe, she represents gracefulness, elegance, and a caring nature.
