I paint with acrylics on watercolor paper, using the process of layering the paint and scratching back to reveal unique colors and textures in my paintings.
 
Sea Change is a  painting for my Celestial Objects collection. Instead of planets in space, this time I chose to do a surreal painting featuring Neptune. Neptune has recently moved from the astrological sign Pisces into the sign Aries for the first time in 164 years. Neptune was in Pisces for 14 years and the move into Aries will bring changes. Pisces is a water sign and the last sign of the zodiac representing the collective unconscious and endings, while Aries is the first sign representing the fiery, energic beginning of the individual.
I chose to paint the ocean to symbolize the Pisces energy and included the green Mercury, pink Venus and the ringed Saturn all in Pisces now. The big gas giant Neptune has moved into Aries symbolized by the warm beach. This surreal painting was fun to paint; I enjoyed pondering how to make the two backgrounds and getting the spheres to pop out.
