I paint with acrylics on watercolor paper, using the process of layering the paint and scratching back to reveal unique colors and textures in my paintings.
 
Lioness ~ Over the years I had painted three male lions, including two for my twin sister who loves lions. The males are dramatic to paint because of their beautiful manes. It came to my mind that I had never painted a female lion, so I felt like taking up that challenge. I decided to have her in a pose like the mysterious great sphinx in Egypt.  
 
I wanted the painting to be playful, a bit like the recent Unicorn painting, so I painted her as if she was a queen with a crown with the sun shining with warm colors rising up behind her. The lion is a symbol of the astrological sign Leo which has the sun as its ruler.
