I paint with acrylics on watercolor paper, using the process of layering the paint and scratching back to reveal unique colors and textures in my paintings.
Winter Landscape ~ In this painting as in the last one, I wanted to continue pushing myself to expand my color palette. I used darker colors; as I worked on it, I’ve finally completed it just as winter is about to turn to spring here in the south. It took me a while to figure out what to paint for this season, because in Atlanta we never get the beautiful white snow.
What I mainly notice is the short days with sun being lower in a deary white sky. January seems to drag on forever. Looking out my window I notice the bare trees, the large tree trunks have differing details. In the space between the large trunks, smaller limbs are crossing them which make it look a bit like stained glass windows when the light behind them. So this is what I decided to paint.
