I paint with acrylics on watercolor paper, using the process of layering the paint and scratching back to reveal unique colors and textures in my paintings.

Blue Jay on a Branch ~ The idea to paint a whimsical blue jay came to me as I was exercising down in our living room that has a large picture window. In the early mornings I enjoy watching the birds are flying about.

I started with a sketch of the blue jay on the branch and then added the landscape elements, it was actually challenging getting everything to work, I laid down quite a bit of paint, I almost gave up but stuck with it which proved to be a lesson on persistence which is something all artists need.

Whenever I see a blue jay, I think of my dad. Jays were some of the songbirds that gathered on the bird feeders in my parents garden that kept them entertained while they sat in the sun room. Dad would talk about how bossy they were at the feeder always getting tasty sunflower seeds. They may be bullies but they sure are beautiful.
